Ubisoft removes their NFT announcement on YouTube after the top 22,000 hate it!

Following widespread criticism and a dislike-to-like ratio of about 20:1, Ubisoft has taken down its announcement teaser for its Ubisoft Quartz platform.

On Tuesday, the official Ubisoft North America YouTube channel aired a video describing the company’s plans to introduce non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to its games.

VGC stated earlier today that the video had earned over 16,000 votes, with 804 likes and 15,466 dislikes.

The video has now been removed from the site, but anyone with the link may still see it.

While the number of viewer interactions has decreased as a consequence, the number of likes and dislikes has increased, with the ratio widening even further.

It now has 23,447 interactions, with 1,018 likes and 22,429 dislikes as of the time of writing.

This suggests that slightly over 4% of viewers enjoyed the video.

NFTs are one-of-a-kind, non-interchangeable data units that may be bought and sold in a digital ledger.

Ubisoft Quartz, which it claims as “the first platform for playable and energy-efficient NFTs in AAA games,” is bringing NFTs to its titles.

It will let players to obtain ‘Digits,’ which are collectible in-game vehicles, guns, and pieces of equipment, and will launch in beta this week alongside the PC version of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon.

Digits will be available in limited ‘Editions,’ each with a certain quantity of cosmetic items.

“Digits are a new way to enjoy cosmetic objects,” according to Ubisoft. “They combine the fun of playing with AAA grade assets with the excitement of owning NFTs that represent unique, collectible parts of Ubisoft game worlds.”

Each Digit has its own serial number, which other players may see in-game, as well as a proof of ownership. Outside of the Ubisoft environment, players will be able to sell Digits on third-party marketplaces.

“Our long-term efforts led us to understand how blockchain’s decentralized approach could genuinely make players stakeholders of our games, in a way that is also sustainable for our industry, placing back into their hands the value they generate through the time they spend, the items they buy or the content they create online,” said Nicolas Pouard, VP of Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab.

“Ubisoft Quartz is the first building block in our ambitious vision for developing a true metaverse. And it can’t come to life without overcoming blockchain’s early-form limitations for gaming, including scalability and energy consumption.”

In the United States, Canada, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Australia, and Brazil, Ubisoft Quartz will be available in beta beginning December 9 at 6 p.m. UTC / 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET.

It will begin with three free Digits drops on December 9, 12, and 15, which will be available on Ubisoft Quartz and playable in Ghost Recon Breakpoint, with further drops planned for early 2022.
